Safe Drinking Water for All: Filter Distribution Initiative Across Nepal
Access to clean drinking water is a basic human right, yet many schoolchildren in rural Nepal continue to face health issues due to contaminated water sources. During various health and dental screening camps conducted across the country, a concerning pattern emerged—many students were suffering from abdominal diseases and dental problems directly linked to the consumption of impure water.
Recognizing the urgent need for safe water in schools, Mr. Daniel Lee Laney, the Founder of the Worldwide Goat Project Nepal (WWGPN), initiated a Water Filter Distribution Program to ensure clean drinking water reaches the heart of rural education.
Phase 1: A Step Towards Healthier Classrooms (2023/024)
With generous support from WeWater Germany, two LifeStraw Community Water Filters were provided and installed in:
- Shree Shankhadevi Higher Secondary School, Neelakantha-11, Dhading
- Shree Bhumimata Secondary School, Bethanchok-4, Kavre
These installations marked the beginning of a transformative journey towards healthier learning environments.
Phase 2: Expanding Our Reach to Gandaki Province (2024/025)
Building on the success of the initial phase, two additional filters were distributed to:
- Shree Ganga Dharma Basic School, Sahid Lakhan Rural Municipality-3, Gorkha
- Shree Saraswoti Basic School, Bhanu Municipality-10, Tanahun
The positive impact was immediate—schools reported a reduction in absenteeism, especially due to water-borne infections.
Looking Ahead: Clean Water for Every Child
Encouraged by the visible benefits of this initiative, we are committed to expanding the program to more schools across Nepal. We aim to reach the most vulnerable communities where access to safe drinking water is still a challenge.
In addition, we have partnered with WWGPN for an Underground Water Boring Project at Shree Balkalyan Basic School, Balaju, KMC-16, Kathmandu, ensuring a sustainable water source for students in the capital as well.
Our Motto: Safe Drinking Water for All
This program is more than a health intervention—it's an investment in children's education, well-being, and future. By reducing illness, we are helping children stay in school, focus on learning, and build better lives.
We extend heartfelt thanks to all our partners and sponsors for believing in this mission. Together, we are making a difference—one filter at a time.
