Ghorepani Poonhill Trek: A Scenic Journey for All Experience Levels

The Ghorepani Poonhill trek is one of the most popular and accessible treks for individuals with limited prior trekking experience. Often referred to as the "Mini Annapurna Trek," it lies along the Annapurna trekking route. The highlight of this trek is Poonhill (3,210 meters), offering trekkers an incredible vantage point to witness the mesmerizing sunrise. As the sun rises, it transforms the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas into golden shades, providing one of the most stunning views in the region.

From Poonhill, trekkers can enjoy panoramic views of the Annapurna range (Annapurna I, II, III, and IV), as well as Mt. Dhaulagiri and the iconic Mt. Machhapuchhre, also known as Fishtail. Along the trek, visitors are treated to scenic landscapes, including terraced farms, dense oak and rhododendron forests, and an abundance of alpine flowers. The trekking route is also home to the Gurung and Magar communities, who warmly welcome visitors to their villages.

The trek begins in Nayapol, located approximately a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Pokhara. Pokhara itself can be reached either by a 25-minute flight from Kathmandu or a 5-hour drive via the Prithvi Highway.

Ghorepani Poonhill trek is considered to be one of the most popular and most easy treks for the people who lack the prior trekking experiences. It can also be called as Mini Annapurna Trek as it lies on the route to Annapurna Trek. Poonhill (3210 meters high) is the point of attraction in this trek because it is the point from where the trekkers will be able to see the fascinating sunrise view which changes the white snowcapped mountains into the golden ones during the sunrise period. Mountains of Annapurna range (i.e. Annapurna I, II, III and IV), Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Machhapuchre also known as Fishtail are some of the beautiful mountains trekkers can see from Poonhill. During their trek to Poonhill, trekkers can see the beautiful landscapes of terrace farming, dense forest filled with oak, rhododendron and other alpine flowers. Gurungs and Magars are the major inhabitants of the places in this trekking route. Starting point for this trek is Nayapol, which is almost one and half an hour drive from Pokhara. Pokhara can be reached either by 25 minutes flight from Kathmandu or 5 hours’ drive from Kathmandu through Prithivi highway.
